Documentary: The Black Panther Party
06/08/2020
In the wake of the recent George Floyd protests, the Criterion Channel is making a number of films free to view for a limited period, including this fantastic short on the Black Panther Party. Released in 1970, this half-hour documentary follows the "Free Huey" movement in Oakland, where Huey Newton had founded the party a mere two years prior. You can learn about the work the party did in the community, as well as their many skirmishes with police - or as they liked to call them, the "pigs".
